Getting Started

Congrats!  You’ve taken the first step toward setting up a plan for your family, your assets and your legacy.  Schedule a consultation online through this site (blue button above) or, call our office at the most convenient time for you. We typically see new clients Tuesday through Thursdays and Saturdays, and even offer evening appointments. If those times are not convenient for you, just let us know. Our goal is to make the process as simple and convenient as possible for you.

Before Your Personal Consultation

Within a week of scheduling your appointment, you will receive a large mailer with your Family Estate Planning Questionnaire and Assessment worksheet and other important information that you will want to review prior to your consultation. We must have your worksheet returned to our office three days prior to your consultation either by US mail or by email to lisah@legaltransparency.com. Feel free to call us at any time if you need assistance completing your worksheet.  If you have existing estate planning documents, please make sure we have them in our office at least a week before we meet so that we can review them in advance.

The Day of Your Meeting

Our initial meeting usually takes about two hours in our Minneapolis Minnesota office. This meeting serves two purposes:

  •

  • To identify whether there is a good fit between you and the attorney who will become your “advisor to your estate for life”.

  • To educate you about the law and what would happen if you died with your current plan, or with no plan at all.

Assuming that you and your attorney determine that there is a good fit between our firm and your family AND that you can benefit from our services, you and your attorney can work together to design a plan for your family right away at the initial consultation.

What to Expect Next

Once you and your attorney have completed the design of your plan, you will schedule a convenient time to sign your documents approximately one month out. We have a process of reviewing the documents with you that makes your plan so easy to understand that you will know for certain that it can accomplish your goals. Once you sign your documents, your assets and your family are protected as discussed during your design meeting.

At our third and final meeting during the planning stage of our relationship, we will provide you with a beautiful binder that holds your unique and personalized physical plan.  Additionally, you will be provided with a USB that also contains your executed Plan.  We see this as only the beginning of our relationship. You may make changes to your planning documents at no charge for up to 90 days after you sign your documents. In addition, we send letters to all of the important people you have named as health care agents, trustees and guardians letting them know just what to do if something happens to you – namely, call us, we’re here for your family!

After the Planning phase is complete, the maintenance phase of your plan will begin. At no additional charge, we review your plan at least every three years and keep you informed about changes in the law and about other issues that affect your family and your wealth. Finally, we are always here for you and we don’t charge for phone calls or emails. We want to speak with you and serve as your advisors for life. Contact us today if you are in the Minneapolis St. Paul metro area to schedule your initial consultation.
